Bike Advice from Roots Cycles

Date: 17th Sep 2026 Author: Sarah (Monday Cubs)

With Group Camping less than two weeks away, Roots Cycles in Doune has sent us their Clean Bike Guide and would like everyone to know that they are happy to do and M-check on anyone’s bike before camp. An M-check is a quick check of the bike’s health to ensure it is safe and ready for your ride.

The M-Check Steps

Start at the front wheel, move up to the handlebars, down to the cranks, up to the saddle, and finish at the rear wheel.

  • Front Wheel: Check that the wheel is secure in the fork and the tyre is pumped to the correct pressure.
  • Handlebars: Make sure the stem and bars do not wobble and bolts are tight. Test both brakes.
  • Bottom Bracket/Cranks: Spin the pedals to ensure the chain moves smoothly and check for loose parts.
  • Saddle: Ensure the seat post clamp is tight and the saddle does not twist.
  • Rear Wheel: Verify the axle nuts or quick-release lever are locked and the chain is clean and oiled.

Roots Cycles is located near the Doune Ponds in Doune and open 9:30 AM -5:30PM Tuesday to Saturday. Call them if you’d like to confirm availability before you go: 01786 271503.
